Historic accommodations in Ourém – Quinta da Alcaidaria Mor

A house with history

Our History

There are places where history is not merely written — it remains present. Quinta da Alcaidaria-Mór is one of those rare places.

According to historical memory, it was here that D. Nuno Álvares Pereira is believed to have stopped to pray before setting out for the battle that would help shape the destiny of Portugal. In this place of reflection, he is said to have made a vow that, should victory be granted, he would have a temple built in Lisbon in honour of the Virgin Mary. That vow was later fulfilled with the construction of the Carmo Monastery, now one of the great symbols of Portuguese spirituality and national history.

Later, in a gesture of deep devotion and historical significance, the Constable of the Kingdom donated this estate, together with its lands, revenues and rights, strengthening the bond between this place, faith, gratitude and one of the defining moments of Portuguese identity.

Today, Quinta da Alcaidaria-Mór preserves this legacy in a discreet yet deeply meaningful way. Surrounded by a serene landscape, it offers a retreat where time slows down and every detail invites contemplation. Here, history is not simply a detail of the past — it is part of the very essence of the place.

Today, Quinta da Alcaidaria-Mór brings together authenticity, elegance and tranquillity in a setting that respects the memory of the past while enhancing it with contemporary comfort. Its spaces and hospitality reflect an intimate and personalised experience, deeply connected to the unique character of the estate.

At Quinta da Alcaidaria-Mór, the true privilege lies in the authenticity of the place, the serenity of the landscape and the rare feeling of inhabiting a space shaped by centuries of history, memory and meaning. More than a destination, Quinta da Alcaidaria-Mór is a place with soul.
